Natural Acne Cures: Holistic Remedies
Even natural acne cures start with ... your diet. Yes, it's true, what you eat has a great effect on your skin, too. And the healthier you are, the faster your body responds to rid itself of impurities, something to which your skin can likely attest.
For clear skin, begin by eliminating sugar and white flour from your diet. Personally, my skin breaks out when I have a little bit of white sugar or overly-processed chocolate. Eliminating the bad is only part of the equation, since you also need to eat foods that help your body cleanse itself of impurities. My sister suffered from very bad acne even as an adult, until she switched from pasteurized dairy products to raw cream and raw milk. She said she noticed a huge difference in her skin right away, and if she is unable to have raw milk for a time her skin usually breaks out once again. Certain herbs help with liver, kidney and intestine function and it is thought these might help with skin blemishes too, by enabling the body to better rid itself of the waste. You can make a tea and drink several cups a day. Clear Skin Tea - 4 cups water
- 3 tsp. dried burdock root
- 3 tsp. dried dandelion root
- 3 tsp. dried red clover blossoms
Simmer burdock and dandelion in the water for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and add the red clover blossoms. Allow to steep, covered, for 10 minutes. Strain tea and drink throughout the day. Sally Fallon recommends a Cabbage Juice Tonic for improving the complexion. - 1/4 organic green cabbage
- 1 TB sea salt
- 1/4 cup whey
- filtered water
Finely shred cabbage with stainless steel knife and pound breifly with meat pounder. Place in 2-quart glass container with salt, whey and enough water to fill container. Cover tightly, leaving at room temperature for 2 days before transferring to refrigerator. Drink the cabbage tonic in small amounts throughout the day.
For cleansing your skin, try a Herbal Cleansing Milk recipe. Combine these ingredients in a glass jar: - 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1 TB dried calendula
- 1 TB dried thyme
- 2 TB dried comfrey leaf
Allow to sit in the refrigerator overnight. Then, strain through a cheesecloth to remove herbs. To use, dampen face with warm water. Apply milk cleanser to cloth and use to gently wash face. Rinse with warm water. Sources:
